Leukemia is threatening neoplastic illness that begins in the tissue that structures blood. To cognize how threatening neoplastic illness begins it is useful to cognize how typical platelets structure. Most platelets are shaped in the bone marrow called root cells. Bone marrow is the delicate stuff in the focal point of most castanetss. At the point when full grown it forms into various sorts of platelets, each sort does a specific occupation. Significant sorts incorporate the bronzed platelets and the white platelets. White platelets are useful to fight diseases. There are numerous sorts of white platelets. Red platelets convey O to the tissues all through the natural structure. The thrombocytes help arrange blood coagulums to thwart drain. White platelets, reddish platelets, and thrombocytes are made from root cells when natural structure needs them. At the point when these cells develop old or harmed, they kick the bucket, thus new cells take their topographic point. In a patient who has leukemia, the bone marrow makes unnatural white platelets. Those unnatural platelets are called leukemia cells. Ordinary platelets kick the bucket when they arrive at a particular age or when they get harmed, though leukemia cells do non perish subsequent to maturing or procuring harmed. They begin to group out typical white platelets, rosy platelets, and thrombocytes. This situation makes it extremely hard for ordinary platelets to make their occupation. There are two kinds of leukemia ; the sorts of leukemia can be assembled on the bases of how rapid the illness creates and deteriorates. Leukemia is either incessant which typically deteriorates simple, or theirs intense which regularly deteriorates quickly. Ceaseless Leukemia: First and foremost periods of the infection, the leukemia cells can in any case make the occupation for ordinary white platelets. Patient may non hold any imprint from the outset ; doctors oftentimes locate the interminable leukemia during a regular clinical assessment before there are any manifestations. Bit by bit, incessant leukemia deteriorates. At the point when those side effects do look, they are ordinarily gentle from the start and procure more regrettable simple. Intense Leukemia: The leukemia cells ca nââ¬â¢t make any of crafted by typical white platelets. The figure of leukemia cells increments quickly. Patients ordinarily go to their doctor since they feel sick. In the event that the encephalon is influenced, they may migraines, cleansing, disarray, loss of musculus control, or ictuss. Patients begin to gain indications, for example, prideful lymph hubs, febrilities, dull exercise suits, feeble inclination, discharge, weight reduction, growing, harming or diseases. Intense leukemia typically declines rapidly. Determination: Have at least one of the undermentioned preliminaries done: physical test, blood preliminaries, biopsy completed two different ways bone marrow goal and bone marrow biopsy. Counteraction: As long bar goes, there is no way to hinder leukemia at this clasp. In any case, maintaining a strategic distance from danger factors, for example, smoke, introduction to poisonous synthetic substances, analytic X raies, and presentation to radiation may help prevent a few occurrences of leukemia. Being solid and staying sound dramatizations an enormous capacity in hindering leukemia. What we put into our natural structures has a clump to make with our general wellbeing. Malignant growth Contending Foods: I have other than done some examination on supplements that are known to thwart various sorts of threatening neoplastic sickness. Eating a group of veggies and organic products help to prevent leukemia, rundown of veggies and natural products are: Avocados â⬠rich in glutathione, a ground-breaking cancer prevention agent that assaults free gatherings in natural structure. Dark Raspberries A ; Blueberries â⬠contain a cancer prevention agent that slaughters leukemia cells without hurting solid cells. Carrots â⬠contain beta provitamin A, which may help chop down dangerous neoplastic infection. Broccoli, Brassica oleracea botrytis, Brussels sprouts, and chou â⬠contains two cancer prevention agents, xanthophyll and zeaxanthin that may help chop down dangerous neoplastic infection. Garlic â⬠expands the action of resistant cells and assists hinder with bringing down substances that cause dangerous neoplastic ailment. Grapefruits, oranges, papaia, pomegranate â⬠help forestall dangerous neoplastic malady Treatment: Leukemia mediation falls into two kinds of intercession to fight the harmful neoplastic illness and mediation to mitigate the indications of the malady and the symptoms of the intercession. Chemotherapy is the broadly utilized intercession for leukemia ; it is the ground-breaking medication to execute leukemia cells. Treatment can be directed by oral pit or vena relying upon the sort of medication. Now and then relying upon the occurrence chemotherapy can be given at place. In different occurrences persistent needs to hospitalize to have the treatment. By this it murders cells or end them from duplicating. It other than slaughters rapidly turning sound cells, representing huge numbers of the symptoms of treatment. The disagreeableness of the symptoms relies upon the portions given and the patient ââ¬Ës resistance. Chemotherapy is regularly given in rhythms. Every cadence comprises of horrible mediation more than a few yearss followed by a couple of hebdomads without intercession for leftover portion and recuperation from symptoms brought about by the treatment, generally sickliness and low white platelets. The grouping is so rehashed. It might be regulated for two to six rhythms, contingent upon subtype leukemia and risk factors included. Bone marrow test might be done preceding every mood of treatment. After finishing of mediation the patient is assessed again to see the outcome of the chemotherapy for leukemia. I accept that this examination is making a relationship to pre-birth contamination and the IQ of its members so in this way it is utilizing the connection inquire about strategy. Disclose your response to the main inquiry with at any rate three reasons. Connection Research is characterized as a logical report wherein the analyst watches or measures (without straightforwardly controlling) at least two factors to discover connections between them. The primary explanation this examination utilizes the connection technique for inquire about is that it matches straightforwardly with the course book meaning of relationship look into. The specialists were contemplating the impact that contamination during the pregnancy months had on IQ scores of the kids being watched. The specialists estimated this by utilizing rucksack air screens on 249 anticipating moms for 48 hours during the most recent couple of month of pregnancy. We will compose a custom exposition test on The Effects of Pollution in Prenatal Intelligience or then again any comparative theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page This assisted with deciding the real degree of contaminations that the ladies were being presented to. They at that point gave the offspring of these moms and IQ test at age 5 preceding they entered school. The examination demonstrated that kids with higher presentation to pre-birth poisons scored 4 to 5 focuses lower than kids with lower levels of introduction to pre-birth toxins. This makes a negative connection between's the measure of pre-birth contamination and IQ scores of expecting mothersââ¬â¢ youngsters. Another explanation it isn't the test inquire about strategy is the trial look into technique utilizes a more straightforward methodology. It would have been led such that controlled the factors all the more intently. Contextual investigations are done on a much smaller range of individuals mostly on one individual. Overviews include simply posing inquiries and contrasting the appropriate responses as opposed to utilizing such things as the rucksack air screens and IQ tests. Portray how well the writer of this report recorded as a hard copy the report contemplated the reason, preferences, and impediments (confinements) of the exploration strategy utilized in the first investigation? I accept the creator worked superbly of clarifying the reason, focal points, and hindrances of this exploration strategy. He didnââ¬â¢t really talk about much about the examination technique itself while he was composing this article, rather he just clarified the strategies that were utilized to accumulate the data utilized in this investigation. The entire article, generally, grasps the examination that was done also considered and genuinely exact. It talks about different variables that could have influenced the investigation, for example, used smoke, the home learning condition, and introduction to contamination after birth as having the option to adjust the aftereffects of the examination, yet demands that a solid relationship is there between pre-birth contamination and IQ scores. This is one of the constraints of the examination. Another impediment that the author makes reference to is the way that a considerable lot of the moms in the examination have never gotten a secondary school recognition. That could impact childrenââ¬â¢s IQââ¬â¢s however the story says there is still a great deal of convincing proof that pre-birth contamination influences the unborn. Portray two different ways the overall population is probably going to misjudge this report? The overall population tends to peruse the feature or skim through article rather rapidly without truly adding something extra to it. The article says how pre-birth contamination is the central point that is causing these lower IQ scores. People in general could confound that just like the fundamental explanation despite the fact that there could be numerous different components that add to this. Indeed, even a portion of these reasons are referenced in the article. Another error the overall population might make is that pre-birth contamination is a risky thing that is extremely adverse to the unborn. Despite the fact that this investigation shows a connection between lower IQ scores and pre-birth contamination, it doesn't demonstrate an immediate connect to other medical problems. Utilizing the data in parts 1-7 in your course book, clarify how at any rate five variables not recorded in the report could all the more likely record for the lower IQ scores than air contamination could. At the end of the day, what five components might be related with living in high contamination regions that preferable clarify lower IQ scores over the contamination itself? The insight of a gathering of 5 yr olds estimated in an IQ test is a troublesome method to decide whether the variables that are being considers are genuinely the real reason. One factor to consider is the way that the moms just wore the knapsack screens for 48 hours during the most recent couple of long stretches of pregnancy. My experience has demonstrated that most moms during the most recent couple of long periods of pregnancy are truly awkward moving around the house, not to mention going out. On the off chance that specific moms had the option to remain in their lofts for the two days they were wearing the rucksack they would have impressively lower measures of toxins that would enlist to the knapsacks than moms who had to go out to get things, for example, food supplies or whatever tasks they may have needed to run. Having just checked the motherââ¬â¢s level of poisons for these two days could imply that they could have bogus data fair and square of toxins the mother was really presented to during the full term of her pregnancy, subsequently changing the result of the examination. Another factor not recorded in the article is the natural factor. Exceptionally contaminated regions as a rule are significantly less costly to live in. The moms in all likelihood don't have the knowledge that it would take to better their day to day environment and would thus pass these qualities on their youngsters. This could be a reason for the lower test scores. Another factor that accompanies that is the way that the motherââ¬â¢s knowledge was never recorded. Heredity is such a key piece of insight that it is hard to accept that this wasnââ¬â¢t noted, particularly when there are just averaging 4 to 5 focuses contrast between the gathering with high contamination and the gathering with low contamination. Testing the moms IQââ¬â¢s would have been an approach to take out this fluctuation or possibly have a superior comprehension of it. Another factor not referenced in the examination is that the air of the house isn't genuinely broke down. In the event that moms can't show their youngsters the same number of things in view of different duties, for example, an occupation, at that point their kid could have lower scores do to truth that their mom essentially doesn't have the opportunity to place in to sitting with their kid, conversing with their kid, perusing to their kid, or some other number of things that could upgrade the childââ¬â¢s capacity to learn. I accept things like this to have a substantially more significant impact on learning. Another factor that isn't talked about in the article is whether the youngsters have some other kin in the home. A more established kin would extraordinarily build the odds of observational discovering that the youngster would be presented to, as this is a key piece of learning in kids. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-89687388712149902512020-07-08T10:56:00.001-07:002020-07-08T10:56:02.984-07:00Analysing and Studying knowledge management to help the organization - Free Essay Example Abstract: Knowledge is the most valuable gift that a person can receive, said Indra Nooyi, the chairman of PepsiCo, one of the most successful corporation in the world. This is so true that knowledge is very important not only for individual but also for organizations. It is the invisible tool to change the human community. Thats why most of the organizations have been trying to manage their knowledge asset in order to maximize their profitability. In this report, readers will be presented a clear understanding about what knowledge is, types of knowledge, how it benefits to organizations plus their employees, leadership style and managerial skills required for Chief Knowledge Officers. In order to describe more about Knowledge Management Cycle in the real life practices, the last part of this report will be a case study took from my internship project, which is about BrandBox Company and how it applied the Wiig Knowledge Cycle to manage its own knowledge. Table of contents: Introduction Analysis Type of knowledge Tacit knowledge Explicit knowledge Knowledge Management benefits for organizations Leadership and managerial skills required for knowledge manager Case study Conclusion References Introduction: Knowledge is a very important property that everyone has, in general; and especially for organizations to manage it in order to develop themselves. Knowledge management is the key factor to be developed, productive, and to be successful in the business market. Every organization has its own knowledge assets to be managed and mastered. In the rapid changing environment and competitive market nowadays, organizations need to understand clearly the importance of knowledge management so that they can survive and succeed. This report will show the readers the clear understanding about what knowledge is and how important knowledge management affects companies. Analysis: First of all, lets discus about knowledge. In this booming information technology world these days, there are many definition about what knowledge is. According to Nonaka and Takeuchi, knowledge is justified true belief, and it is different from data and information. There are many more definitions from many others, but they still have the same basic concept which is the experiences, awareness that people had received from their past experiences. Knowledge is conducted by data, which is raw material such as numbers, words, unprocessed materialÃÆ'à ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ãâà ¦ etc. and information, which is created by filtered data. For examples, students enrollment to Raffles International College: when the students fill the form of enrollment, they have to put their names, phone numbers, address, email addressÃÆ'à ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ãâà ¦ all of these are data. And after that, Raffles gets the number of enrolling students for the new term; these are information that conducted fr om the previous data. Thus, we can come to the figureà [1]à of transferring from data to knowledge like following: Meaning to say, knowledge can be created by combining all these processes, or it can also be conceived through real experiences, communication, practices. Type of knowledge: Although knowledge is a huge resource, but there are still existing two types of knowledge: tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge. Tacit knowledge: Tacit knowledge is intangible. In the field of knowledge management, the concept of tacit knowledge is referred to a knowledge that is known by an individual and it is difficult to communicate to othersà [2]à . For examples, to ride a motorbike or to drive a car, a person needs to practice with a motorbike or a car in order to be able to drive it; this cannot be learned from a book or from another person without practicing. If an individual only reads a book, he/she just knows how to drive in theory, and this knowledge is considered tacit knowledge. This is true when an individuals thought is difficult to be explained to other people or to be drawn, written down into documents. Tacit knowledge can be conceived through an individuals practices, learning, or working experiencesà [3]à . We can have a simple example as you read a document or a book, are you even aware of the character? The answer is not, you probably skimmed over the words without any notice how they grouped ; because you already know what that meant. That is tacit knowledge. Explicit knowledge In contrast with tacit knowledge, explicit knowledge is tangible; normally it is contented in documents, files, books, images, movies, magazinesÃÆ'à ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ãâà ¦ etc. it is easy to share and communicate with the others. In an organization, explicit knowledge exists in the forms of documents such as contracts, customers information, policies of the companyÃÆ'à ¢Ã ¢Ã¢â¬Å¡Ã ¬Ãâà ¦ etc. and it can be built, used, and shared by the employees in the whole organization. In an organization, in the same case with the same tacit knowledge, each employee will have different way to solve the problem; as everyone has their own knowledge, experiences and different perspective so that they can have their own advantage and also for the whole organization. Thus, it is very important for them to manage the knowledge in order to maximize productivity and profitability. Knowledge management benefits for organizations: There are many questions pop up in the managers, CEO, CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer) when their company does not working properly, underperforming or the role of Knowledge Management is not considered as important such as Why do many corporations fail when they face continuous changes? How to improve the performance of the company? Or even How to motivate the employees? The important factor here is how to manage the different knowledge of the whole organization from both tacit and explicit knowledge, and then they can take full advantage of the knowledge in order to maximize the organizations productivity. That is why managing knowledge plays a very important role in the company. There are many definition of knowledge management, according to Debowskià [4]à , knowledge management is the process of identifying, capturing, organizing and disseming the intellectual assets that are critical to the organizations long-term performance. When Knowledge is well managed in an organi zation, the result will have much positive effect to the organizations profitability, improving productivity, decreasing the unexpected problems and also the employees. It will create more chances for the employees to improve and also motivate them to have more effort into work. In addition of the COP (community of practice) for the organization, employees can share their knowledge, working experience, skills about the jobs and also to create a better working environment. Leadership and managerial skills required for knowledge manager (CKO): As knowledge plays a very important role in the organizations, and managing knowledge is also an important job for the managers. To convert the employees tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge or into the organizations knowledge so that everyone can share it that requires the deliberate of the whole organizations system. However, to operate that system is not easy; thus, we can see the role of the Knowledge Manager (chief knowledge officer) is extremely important. A Chief Knowledge Officer is an organizational leader, he responsible for ensuring that the organization maximizes the value it achieves through knowledge. A CKO is also responsible for managing intellectual capital and the custodian of knowledge management practices in an organizationà [5]à . His/her role is much broader than Chief Information Officer, besides creating, sharing, and developing knowledge in the organization; the CKO must use their knowledge first, then motivate the employees to contribute their kn owledge for the benefit of the whole organization. Moreover, in order to take that big responsibility, knowledge managers must have their skills through a wide variety of areas. They definitely have to be good at understanding the whole picture of the organizational situation, and also personal skills such as communication, interpersonal, negotiation skills, and listen to others to understand more about the employees then keep them motivated. Knowledge managers who can successfully combine these skills will help a lot in saving the time and cost for the organization and they will be excellent agents for the organization that they work forà [6]à . Case study: BrandBox is a small company located in Binh Thanh District, HCMC. BrandBox (used to be known as dLuxy) was found in 2008 and currently a member of worldwide partners Inc. (WPI), a worlds largest owner-operated agency network. Working and developing ideas with international standards, plus deep knowledge and understanding of the Vietnamese culture, BrandBoxs core business is to create and develop brand identity, advertising and graphics design. Services that the Company is delivering to customers are: Brand identity system, brainstorming advertising idea, and creative graphics design. Through 3 months of internship at the Company, I found that the structure of BrandBox is very simple: Due to its small size, therere only 3 departments are: Marketing, Design, and Human Resource that will report directly to the CEO. Marketing department is divided into many smaller groups. As many small size companies, BrandBox has their own knowledge to be managed. The CEO recruited mainly inter nship students; they are good students, young, smart, and creative from national or international universities. They were grouped together to work on the projects under Marketing department. There, the intern students will be responsible and take care of all the processes of the projects. Once a project received with the deadline given, all the groups have to brainstorm, looking for information, planning for the processes and then present to the CEO and other departments their ideas to get the project done with the most effective and efficient way. By doing this, BrandBox has saved a lot for the cost of hiring employees as most of internship students will be working without any payment. Furthermore, the results and information they received from the students are really good quality and relevant. For the students, although they wont receive any payment for all the work they have done, but they have learned a lot of things that they could never receive in school. As I mentioned above, the most effective way to share the knowledge is the Community Of Practice, by working together in groups, student can share the information, experiences, and knowledge with each other, also improve themselves in the same time. In my own opinion, as my assigned project worked out really well, I have learned a lot from the internship period and this is a great idea for the companies to recruit internship students, it not only benefits the companies but also the students as well. Experience, training, education. KM system, team brainstorming. In people, tangible forms. Use Pool Hold BuildIn the field of knowledge management, BrandBox can apply the Wiig Knowledge Cycleà [7]à as following: Work context, work process. fsfdsdffsfs In my opinion, the first step of the Wiig knowledge Cycle, Build Knowledge was applied successfully as the Company has some training courses for the new intern students to get used to the company policies, and to be familiar wi th the jobs. The companys size is small, then the employees can get to know others easier, then they can share their knowledge together. The other steps of the model was also well implemented, knowledge of the students and the employees is used properly, and in an effective way. Plus the teams and groups working environment is really an advantage for all the employees to brainstorm, share their knowledge, ideas, and experience with each other. Conclusion: In conclusion, throughout this report, Knowledge Management takes a really important place in an organization. If knowledge is well managed, it will bring benefit to both organizations and their employees, saving time, reduce cost, improve productivity, profitability and the human relationship as well. In addition, Knowledge Management is the key factor that affect directly to the organizations; any company that has good knowledge management system, it will survive and develop in this global competitive business world. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-85743722481803124402020-05-19T20:23:00.001-07:002020-05-19T20:23:04.813-07:00Essay about Falls Among Older Persons with Dementia ââ¬Å"Fall may be defined as an unexpected event in which the person comes to rest on the ground, floor, or lower levelâ⬠(Struksness, Lindstrà ¶m, Lord, Slaasletten, Johansson, et al., 2011). The procedures were conducted using the format of questionnaires. The questions on the questionnaire were based on these four main areas: cause of falls, nursing staffs intervention in fall prevention, routines of documentation and report, and experiences and reactions of nursing staff related to fall incidents. The 64 questions were distributed into four different categories of people. The four different categories are registered nurse, enrolled nurses, unskilled nursesââ¬â¢ aid and other professions (Struksness et al., 2011, p.3 ). Answer: Introduction: The case study presented in here highlights the issues pertaining to lack of systematic flow of healthcare information among the care system. The issues presented in the case study are multivariate. Firstly, the primary care physician carried out the pregnancy test with the similar test to that used by Jade at home, which is a urine test. Pregnancy diagnostic tests should have been carried out at the unit with advanced procedures that confirm pregnancy. Further, Jade was required to answer the assessment form for risk factors without the consultation of her mother. As a result she could not provide with the information regarding her familys reproductive history. It is crucial for providing the familys reproductive history for accurate risk assessment procedure in pregnancy. In addition, Jade was sent for undergoing blood tests in a nearby hospital as the polyclinic did not have provision for blood tests. This is of much inconvenience to the patient. The main concern lies in the fact that Jade had to repeat the registration process at te main hospital since there was no provision for direct flow of patient information between the two healthcare units. Due to lack of planning, Jade was unable to undergo the required procedure for cystic fibrosis test. Information and communication technology (ICT) is the convergence of networks for better transfer and storage of information. ICT can be applied effectively in the healthcare system for improving patient care through appropriate healthcare delivery. Through efficient applications, ICTs improve system efficiency (Manojlovich et al., 2015). In the present case, ICT is to be applied in the form of Electronic Health Record (EHR) that has gained immense popularity in the recent past due to its advantages. An electronic health record is the systematized collection of patient and population electronically stored health information in a digital format. The records containing the patients health information can be shared across the different healthcare settings. The use of enterprise-wide, network-connected information system can facilitate sharing of information. HER systems are used for designing storage of data in an accurate manner and capturing the patients state across time (Adler-Milst ein et al., 2015.). Further, use of telephones would have been appropriate in the present case for communicating between two healthcare professionals. Telephone communication between care providers is an important tool for improving access to care for patients. A telephonic connection between the receptionist at the polyclinic and the phlebotomist would be appropriate so that they can communicate regarding the planning of patient services. In addition, use of the internet, in the form of e-mail is useful for providing patients with assessment forms that they can fill up as per their convenience at their homes. This would promote better extraction of patient data within short span of time (Abdelhak et al., 2014). The benefits of using ICT in relation to EHR, telephonic system and e-mail would be significant. The most striking advantage would be the ability to develop and maintain systems for capturing, storing and organizing medical and peripheral data of the patient (Wager et al., 2017). The redesign outlined would promote time savings and reduction of efforts of the patients. Further, the financial benefits of the system would be huge as the costs for unnecessary delay processes would be reduced. With the help of HER, patient data can be directly transferred between care settings which are of convenience for the patient. The procedure would reduce the chances of incorrect information transfer. When telephonic communication takes place between two professionals such as the receptionist at polyclinic and phlebotomist, services can be arranged so that the patient does not need to suffer inconvenience (Silver, 2015). Patient accessibility is also an advantage in this regard. Patients can adhere to required care guideline in a proactive manner. Using applications such as e-mail would help in communicating maximal information to the healthcare professional. The patient can stay in contact with the professional and update on the further referral processes (Abdelhak et al., 2014). The potential of using ICT in healthcare is immense; nevertheless, the possible challenges in implementing the same are also relevant. The first challenge would be a point to point integration. Integration systems have to be custom built for the healthcare system that uses it, and thus a tangled web of connection might occur. The technical ability of the care professionals might pose a hindrance. The use of EHR might be expensive under certain conditions. Proper financial support is required in this regard. At the time of implementation, training is to be provided to the care professionals so that they become acquainted with the new system. This would require additional efforts and resources apart from time. Finding the expenses to invest in support, training and the physical infrastructure might act as a common barrier. The concern of information privacy also remains. The issues in this regard include loss of information, cyber hacking, and inappropriate use of patient information w ithout consent (Wager et al., 2017). Yet what makes this film so remarkable is its analysis of both human and social conditions without an ounce of pretension or overbearing agenda. Menzel s form is so light-hearted and simple that, despite the bleak subject matter and social critique, Closely Watched Trains not only loves life, it celebrates it amidst social turmoil.I pursued three fundamental issues recurring in the movie. (1) The issue of delayed responses, such as Milos development from boy to man, the locals understanding of war and occupation and the contemporary response (as of publication) of Czechoslovaks to Communist rule. (2) The issue of ongoing servitude, both as a theme in the movie and as an element of Czech history, and how that servitude has suddenly transformed in the past ten years. (3) The issue of ironic bad luck, seen everywhere in the movie (and a fundamental darkly humorous aspect of Hrabals writings), as well as a quirky element of Czech culture. The plot of this heavily symbolic, sometimes surrealist piece is rather difficult to sum up in a brief way. I spent some time on the symbolism in the movie, since its a dominant aspect. The story opens with a huge, dark wing floating over the town. Other symbols worth exploring: eyes watching from behind windows, ticking clocks (and snowflakes, watches, timetables, etc.), uniforms and uniformities, pigeon-keeping, the ventilator shaft, dead horses with their feet in the air, the bricklayer as God installing fire extinguishers, rubber stamps, striped pajamas, marching feet, furniture. The genius of the film is that it is deceptively innocent. Like the employees of the train station it depicts, Closely Watched Trains seems pretty disinterested with the Nazi activity passing through. Trains carrying ammunition and soldiers (the closely watched trains of t he title), as well as other Nazi supplies, roll through the humble train station but trainee Milos Hrma (Vaclav Neckar) is more interested in doing as little work as possible while developing his romantic manhood. (The significance of trains as a method of transporting the doomed to concentration camps is never explicitly mentioned, but the imagery is always there. Czechs talk about the cattle and other livestock crammed into train cars without any thought given to their well-being. Even though the film mostly has a light tone, the darkness is never far from the surface.)Seemingly belying its title, the films setting is a backwater station which trains nearly always skip as a stop. But gradually the real sense of this title becomes clear, referring to the German trains that were given priority passage through occupied Czechoslovakia to carry munitions and troops during World War II. And finally that meaning is in turn subverted: the last train is indeed closely guarded, leading to t he death of the central figure, but not before his own close surveillance is rewarded. Given his own family background, the heroism behind his act grows from what seems an unlikely base (right down to his grandfather who tried to stave off the German advance by hypnotizing a tank, which promptly flattened him). We see only lovable but bumbling Czech provincials in the film, who seem to have worked out a private arrangement of holding the War at a comfortable distance; old-world, charming people who are ultimately rather self-indulgent. But all this proves illusory, and were left with an unexpected act of heroism, which largely occurs off-screen. There is no Hollywood foregrounding of the individual here; instead the after-effects of the explosions resonate across the screen and through our own historical consciousness ââ¬â this is what it took to disable the closely watched trains and the whole system that relied on them running on time.Closely Watched Trains has one of the most surprising endings Ive ever seen. Its surprising for many reasons. It seems to go against the style of the entire film up to that point. It is also played in such a matter-of-fact way that it actually magnifies what happens. This is a film of great humanity and the fate of Milos is strongly felt. Its also a very sensual film. You can almost feel the textures: The thick material of the uniforms, the leather of the furniture, the metal of the trains, skin, hair. Beautiful cinematography and lighting help create this atmosphere with a few simple details. The actors are natural and low-key, but the drama of their lives is real. The film has a wry, dry comedy but still there is suffering. The historical sweep implied by the film is suggested, but never documented, by its low key approach. Freshness of characterization is matched by turning the miniature mise en scà ¨ne and drama into microcosms of struggles on the world stage. Behind the visuals there is a magical world of wonderful tink ling, of flashing lights and seemingly self-generating signals, all reflecting the operation of the railroad, before their full significance is revealed. A further recurring sound effect is the lovely old clock, a vestige of bygone Hapsburg glory, which at the end almost operates as a metronome to the explosions, having bided its historical time. Just like the underground patriotism of the Czech people, in this strikingly understated film with its bitter-sweet humour, its earthy imagery, and its unassuming heroism. It would be a mistake to discredit the lyrical charm of Closely Watched Trains. The film is indeed enchanting in its loveably absurd situations. Unlike the existential and desperate tendencies of Swedish, Italian and even French cinema, the Czech New Wave portrayed what at first seems equally dire worldviews, but presents such ordinary characters in their humanity such that we can only laugh. Closely Watched Trains is the epitome of Czech New Wave in that, while portraying both social struggle of government upheaval and totalitarian invasion, as well as intense personal struggle to the point of (failed) suicide, it still obviously loves life.Unfortunately, the dark overtones of this comedy are broadened in the last part and Closely Watched Trains slowly turns into drama.Hubickas transformation from hedonistic womaniser into dedicated resistance fighter isnt quite explained. The subplot dealing with German ammunition train still provides good opportunity for a laugh or two. On the other hand, we have an unnecessary symbolism Milos sexual maturity as metaphor for his political self-awareness looks too much like similar cliches in many WW2 films made in former Yugoslavia. Menzel ends film rather abruptly, without proper epilogue and with the unusual, but rather realistic combination of tragedy and comedy. Even with the flaws that deprived CLOSELY WATCED TRAINS of being the true masterpiece, this is still a great film that truly deserved its Academy Awa rd. Those who would like to enter the magic world of Czech cinema should use it as starting point. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-77076739183484635582020-03-16T18:42:00.001-07:002020-03-16T18:42:02.351-07:00Map Projections essaysMap Projections essays Map Projection can be defined as the spatial relationship between features on the earths surface and their representation on a flat map. This compares and transforms the earths 3-D terrain to a flat 2-D surface. Map projections are created in a two step process. The first step is to assume that the earth has been mapped on a reference globe to fit the chosen scale for the flat map. The second step is to transform, mathematically, the reference globes surface onto a flat surface, point by point. When transferring the spherical surface to a flat plane, distortions will result. Area, Angle, Distance and Direction distortions are the most commonly occurring and are the ones that need to be fixed during transformation. In map projections, it is best to see what type of projections will be best used. Conformal projections are one type of map projection that cal be used. Conformal projections consist of Mercator, Transverse Mercator, Lamberts conformal conic projection with two standard parallels and conformal stereographic projections. Mercator projections are the probably the most famous map projection ever devised. Equal Area Projection is another form of Map Projection used; however, the choice to use an equal area projection is based on two processes. It is important to consider the size of the region involved and the distribution of angular deformation. In considering when Equal area projection to use, one might choose from Albers Equal are or Lamberts Equal area projection, both which are widely used today. Besides Equal Area Projections, there are World Equal-Area Projections. These can be consisted of cylindrical equal-area, sinusoidal, Mollweide or Goodes projection. Groups of Projection might be including Azimuthal, orthographic, simple conic, polyconic or space oblique Mercator projection. ... alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-13049347110558281092020-02-29T09:09:00.001-08:002020-02-29T09:09:04.665-08:00American Revolution vs. French Revolution American Revolution vs. French Revolution From studying and learning about both revolutions, I guess you could say they had their similarities; they both had good intentions did they not? Both the Americans and the French people hungered for a new way of life, change is what they wanted. Change is indeed what they received. The American Revolution, to me, seemed more organized and well handled than the French Revolution. The Americans were tired of being under the Britishââ¬â¢s control, especially when the British tried forcing the American colonies to pay for the British armyââ¬â¢s expenses in defending the colonists during the Seven Year War.The attempt to raise new taxes by the Stamp Act in 1765 led to riots and the lawââ¬â¢s rapid appeal. The colonist disagreed with the British beliefs, that a single empire with Parliament as the supreme authority. The colonists were more comfortable with neither the king or Parliament interfering with their internal affairs and that no tax could be levied wit hout the consent of the people or their chosen representatives. The American colonists felt in 1776 that it was time to separate themselves from the Britainââ¬â¢s control. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress released a declaration written by Thomas Jefferson. The Declaration of Independence, a page of parchment, had started the war for American Independence. The Second Continental Congress then authorized the formation of the Continental Army under George Washingtonââ¬â¢s command. Washington was the best choice for the job because he had political experience and military experience in the French and Indian War. The French were eager to gain revenge for earlier defeats from the British, so they supplied weapons and money to the American colonies at the beginning of the war. Some French officers even fought along the Americans side against the British. I think at the time, this was the best alternative for the 13 American colonies. They achieved their independence as the United States of America; put together the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. It seemed to have worked out for them at the time. The main cause of the French Revolution was the differences between the three social classes that existed in France at that time. There was a severe amount of injustice in the tax system. The third estate paid the highest taxes, while the first estate was exempted from paying the French chiefs taxes (taille). The second estate was excused from paying any and all taxes. The rent for the Third Estate was raised. Consumer prices rose faster than wages, enabling peoples economic ability to pay. Although the third estate made up most of the population of France, it owned less land than the first and second estate. An immediate cause of the French revolution was the near collapse of the government finances.French governmental expenditures continued to grow due to costly wars and royal extravagances. On the verge of complete financial collapse, the government called a meeting of the Estates-General. The Estates disagreed with how the Third Estate wanted to vote, therefore, the Third Estate voted to constitute itself a national assembly and decided to draw up a constitution. The results to this was finding themselves locked out of the usual meeting place, so they made the Tennis Court Oath that they would continue to meet until they produced a French constitution. These actions by the third estate were said to be the first step into the French Revolution. The king sided with the first and second estate but the common people came together with many uprisings in the summer of 1789, one in particular was the Fall of Bastille, an attack on a royal armory, which had also been a state prison. The National Assembly voted to abolish seigniorial rights as well as the fiscal privileges of nobles, clergy, towns, and provinces. On August 26, 1789, the assembly provided the ideological foundation for its actions and an educational device for the nation by adopting the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen. The king refused the decrees on abolition of feudalism and the Declaration of Rights, but after some Parisian women threatened the royal family, King Lou is XVI changed his mind. By 1791, the National Assembly completed a new constitution that established a limited constitutional monarchy. There was still a monarch: king of the French, but he enjoyed few powers not subject to review by the new Legislature Assembly. The Legislature Assembly would sit for two years; consist of 745 representatives chosen by an indirect system of election. The king attempted to flee, but was captured and brought back to Paris. Surrounding countries feared that the French behavior and rebellion would spread to their land, so those leaders planned to force the reestablishment of the monarchy authority in France. This just brought on more fire to the French. The political groups in Paris rose against the king and the Legislature Assembly. They organized a mob attack on the royal palace, took the king captive, and forced the assembly to suspend the monarchy and call for a national convention to decide on the future form of government. The first step the Convention took was to abolish the monarch and establish republic. They also passed a decree condemning Louis XVI to death. A nation in arms was put together, very quickly. It was a ââ¬Å"peopleââ¬â¢sâ⬠war, the entire nation was involved in the war. Iââ¬â¢m not even sure where or when the French Revolution ends, its ever-lasting it seems. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-74190573323596761402020-02-13T01:56:00.001-08:002020-02-13T01:56:03.868-08:00Not sure Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1Not sure - Essay Example Buddhism has a significant following in China since its introduction in the first century from India (Adler, 2002). It is based on the teachings, beliefs and practices of its founder, Siddhartha Gautama, widely known as Buddha. From its inception, Buddhism has existed under two main categories ââ¬â the Theravada and Mahayana ââ¬â and each had followers in different parts of Asia. Initially, Buddhism teachings and beliefs met a stiff resistance from the Chinese society due to its concept of monasticism and repugnance to social affairs. This beliefs and practices went against the traditional Chinese norms and standards. Buddhism was seen as retrogressive and barbaric practice that was a threat to the state authority; and that Buddhist monasteries were of no value to the economy of the state. As a way of making it appeal to the Chinese society, Buddhism concepts were matched to Taoism by the first Indian translators (Adler, 2002). Subsequently, it started to appeal to the elites and intellectuals, and a new genre of Buddhism was formed as an alternative to Taoism and Confucianism. Taoism is a belief and philosophical tradition that is based in living in harmony with Tao. Tao is a principle of ââ¬Å"pathâ⬠or ââ¬Å"wayâ⬠and is also found among other Chinese traditional religions and philosophies (Adler, 2002). ... This different schools are not institutionalized and do not forbid their followers from believing and practicing multiplicity of schoolââ¬â¢s of beliefs and philosophies including, Confucianism and Chinese folk religion. Chinese folk religions comprise of traditional beliefs system based on mythology that practice the worship of deities ââ¬â clan, cities, national and cultural deities - and demigods. Folk religion in china has been classified with Taoism since mainstream Taoism has been trying to assimilate customary religions. Confucianism is a belief system based on ethics and philosophical teachings of Confucius. Confucianism has been the official state ideology of the country since the fall of the Qin dynasty (Adler, 2002). Traditional Chinese religions have been largely an individual focused beliefs and philosophy that never demand exclusive adherence of followers. Existence of religion in China before the influence of the West Religion in China existed in the form a beli ef systems developed by philosophers and other idealist based on the traditional Chinese folk religion. These belief systems were never forced upon the people and were adhered in order to realize high moral and intellectual understanding of life. Buddhism for instance, was introduced to china from India along the Silk Road region and to make it appeal to the Chinese society and political class, it had to assimilate traditional, folk practices (Adler, 2002). Some of the beliefs of traditional Chinese society fit the description of religious rites such as veneration of ancestors. This practice is aimed at showing a deceased family member respect and cements the family ties between the dead and alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-68321919491328130532020-02-01T03:19:00.001-08:002020-02-01T03:19:02.866-08:00Buyer behavior Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsBuyer behavior - Essay Example Once the customer decision making process of the customers is understood, it becomes relatively easier to develop a customer profile as the customerââ¬â¢s decisions to buy specific items are rationally and emotionally influenced. In the process of making their decisions, customers consider categories based in rationales, and they may make a decision, particularly in the case of repeat customers, based on the brand or based on emotions. The decision making of customers can assist the business to ensure that they have an emotional attachment to the brand which is among the key elements that build brand loyalty(Wright, 2006, p. 27). Additionally, it is also among the key factors in obtaining recommendations and referrals, and when seeking more customers for the business, it is relatively easier to choose the best marketing strategies when the business has an understanding. Understanding the manner in which customers make decisions assists business in various ways in its future operat ions as it seeks to be successful. Understanding how customers make decisions makes it easier for the business to comprehend rational and the emotional reasons that affect customers and thus the business can make decisions based on this (Lamb, Hair & McDaniel, 2009, p. 140). For instance, a customer may have tax issues and be in need of advice making their situation acute, thus they will seek a business that provides peace of mind and assists them to worry less. If the business understands the manner in which the customers make their decisions, it will be easier to come up with ways that will ensure they are at peace. This is because the emotional reasons of the customers have a higher influence on the manner in which they make decisions compared to price. Understanding decision making process of the customers is also important for the business as this will assist the business as it makes plans on timing of strategic market alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-2449839418607916792020-01-23T23:43:00.001-08:002020-01-23T23:43:02.621-08:00Joan Of Arc By Jules Basten Lepage Essay -- essays research papers à à à à à ââ¬Å"Joan of Arc,â⬠was painted by the French realist artist Jules Bastien-Lepage in 1879. ââ¬Å"After the province of Lorraine was lost to Germany following the Franco-Prussian War in 1821, The Frenchmen saw in Joan of Arc a new and powerful symbol. In 1875, Bastien-Lepage, a native of Lorraine began to make studies for a picture of her. Oil on canvas was used to create the realistic quality of the work. By closely examining the artistââ¬â¢s technique, it is clear that he uses delicate brush strokes in a true to life manner. The colors, and use of light seem to be painted in a layered fashion to give the landscape a sense of depth. The background of the painting is a garden which include foliage and brush that surrounds the primary focus of the painting, Joan of Arc. The artist put a great effort into the details of the scene. Bastien-Lepage uses a distinct realistic quality in his painting which is visible in each individual leaf and branch. Various hues of earth tones, green and brown being the most evident, are blended together in the garden scene. à à à à à In... alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-44875660218730954722020-01-15T20:05:00.001-08:002020-01-15T20:05:03.718-08:00Essay on Charlie ChaplinCHARLIE CHAPLIN ESSAY INTRODUCTION When I decided to do my research on Charlie Chaplin, I thought that it would have been quite straightforward; my plan was to introduce his life and his career, finishing off with his accomplishments. However, as my research progressed, I came to realise that Charlie Chaplin is a man who cannot be put into a few words. My research opens up (brought me into) a whole new dimension of his intriguing life thus drawing me into his world. Hence, I became more and more interested in discovering the man behind the name. Therefore, I shall try my best to glorify this human being and talented actor who was adored throughout the ages. My presentation starts with a short / brief biography of Charlie Chaplin. Then, I will continue by describing his acting career which will later build up to the main characters that he interpreted. Finally, I will present to you the wonders of his great film: ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠. WHO WAS HE? Charles Spencer Chaplin was born on the 16th of April 1889 in East Street, Walworth, England. His parents, both known music hall entertainers in England, divorced when he was young (around 1891). He stayed little in contact with his father. His father did not give much child support payments to his family. It was therefore up to his mother to financially support his older half-brother Sydney, Charlie Chapin and herself. Thus, he stayed quite attached to his mother. Without a father figure, he saw in his mother her determination and strength to carry on and not giving up on them by bringing them. On the other hand, his older half-brother Sydney proved to be a brother of a kind. He would be to thank later in life because he partly contributed to the early successes of Charlie Chaplin. There was a point when his motherââ¬â¢s willpower crumbled, she was sent into an asylum. Sydney and Charlie were both sent to Lambeth Union Workhouse (a place where abandoned children and orphans were sent) in 1896. Charlie Chaplin was then just aged seven. His mother came out of the asylum only to be admitted again a few years later. During this time, he went to live with his father and his step-mother but he preferred to live by himself, hiding during the day to avoid going to school and performing in musicals at night. At the age of ten, barely knowing how to read or write, he joined a group of clog dancers; this is one of the first signs showing that he was destined to continue in the artistic field. Indeed, within a few years Charlie would become one of the most popular child actors in England. As a performer on stage, at each time it would take a few months for Chaplin to conquer hundreds of spectators. However, it was when he went back to Vaudeville acting (energetic multi-act theatre) that he discovered his talent for comic pantomime. For a few years, he would continue performing in Vaudeville. Then at the age of twenty, Charlie Chaplin went to the United States and performed with Frederich Karno, whom Sydney was working with and introduced Chaplin to Karno. He would soon be warmly welcomed by the American audience. There he started his career as the most famous comedian that ever lived. CHARLIE CHAPLINââ¬â¢S ACTING CAREER At the age of ten he started performing in musicals. At the age of 24, he became worldwide famous. In 1917, he began to become, thanks to his new found way of expression, the most famous comedian that the world has ever known. His films became more and more witty, vifs et apparemment desinvolte et de plus en plus travailles. Charlie Chaplin wanted to explore and extend his talent of comic. He always wanted to do more, not only to please the public but also to convey the good heartedness of mankind ââ¬â which was manifested in films like ââ¬Å"City of Lightsâ⬠, where love is the main subject of the film. He felt the need to talk about the dehumanisation of work in the film ââ¬Å"Modern Timesâ⬠and even more of the huge menace of fascism incarnated by the monster which has many curious resemblances to Chaplin. But he had this irresistible need to be funny and to please the public and to be loved by the public by using the simplest of emotions whichwas by talking from the heart. Charlie Chaplin is probably the most accomplished show business man during his time. He was multi-talented ââ¬â he was a good actor and also a successful director, script-writer and producer. Active and observant as he was, he portrayed his perception on things in his films. He remained true to his views on real life situations but never forgetting to add humour as he knew that life is never all black or all white. Throughout his career, though he interpreted several characters, Charlie Chaplin never abandoned the famous character that brought him to fame: the character of ââ¬Å"Trampâ⬠. The ââ¬Å"Trampâ⬠character made him rich and it was inspired by his poverty-stricken childhood- a man-child always hoping for the better. Ironically, he became a rich man by imitating the poorest of men. Rich as he was, he could have rejected his childhood, however, he remembered where grew up as a child: East Street, Walworth, England. Even his famous ââ¬Å"bow-legged dance-walkâ⬠, he claims was inspired when he was in the pub ââ¬ËThe Queens Headââ¬â¢ owned by his uncle and Charlie Chaplin saw Rummy Binks, an old waiter, do a ââ¬Å"duck walkâ⬠. He would constantly film situations as he would observe in real life people can relate with, for example in ââ¬Å"The Modern Timesâ⬠he filmed in a factory and displayed his view of the Marxist concept of the dehumanisation effect of work.. Sound did not exist at the time of Chaplin but the actions say it all- because all is in the subtlety, all is mild, ingeniously suggested and not exaggerated. * In 1898, at the age of 9 years old, Charlie Chaplin had his first taste of show business appearing in a clog dancing musical produced by a stage company called ââ¬Å"Eight Lancashire Ladsâ⬠. In 1910, Chaplin arrived in the United States and was chosen by Mack Sennett to be in a Keystone Films silent comedy series. During this time, Chaplin created the role of the ââ¬Å"Tramp. â⬠It was when he left Mack Sennett to work at Essanay Studios in 1914 that he really developed the character of ââ¬Å"The Trampâ⬠. By the time he signed a contract with National Films in 1918, he was an experienced and well-appreciated actor who knew his value as an actor. Therefore he was not shy to ask $1,000,000 for a film. Although, he had many projects in his mind however, he needed money to invest in his ideas and bring them to the screen. Hence, at 28 years old, Charles Spencer Chaplin becomes a millionaire and his contract with the First National gave him the control and rights to his films. The United Artists was formed in 1918 with actors Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and director D. W Griffith. Their films would become their properties. Controversy would occur when the First World War starts and he does not join to fight for his country. Instead he makes a film ââ¬Å"The Bondâ⬠in 1918 to show his support for the soldiers at war. In ââ¬Å"Shoulder Armsâ⬠(1918), it is a film about the First World War and it is one of the most popular films of the First World War. He manages to demonstrate the horror and the ridiculousness of the war. In 1921, he notices Jack Coogan in a vaudeville act. He stars with Jackie in ââ¬Å"The Kidâ⬠, â⬠¦ Chaplin and Jackie Coogan in ââ¬Å"The Kidâ⬠(1921) ââ¬Å"The Modern Timesâ⬠(1936) introduces a concept Marxist- man is reduced to something underneath him, he is just an animal fed by the machine. There is no doubt that Charlie Chaplin is a left-wing man. ââ¬Å"Modern Timesâ⬠(1936) and the Eating Machine Scene depicts the dehumanising effect of mechanization. ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠released in 1940 marked a new turn in terms of Chaplinââ¬â¢s working methods- it was to be his first talking film, and for the first time he was to begin a picture with a complete script. This satiric film on fascism came out whilst the world was devastated by two major wars: the First World War and the beginning second world war. For this reason, Chaplin's political perspective on right-wing dictatorship was not entirely accepted by the public and it led the United States government to believe that he was a communist and when asked if he was a Jew he answered admirably that ââ¬Å"I do not have the chance to be oneâ⬠. He does not deny that he is not Jewish, he thought that it would be an implicit suggestion that he was a supporter of anti-Semitism. MAIN CHARACTERS Throughout his acting career, Charlie Chaplin has interpreted quite a few characters, of which I will talk about two of them in particular. The first character is Charlie Chaplinââ¬â¢s principal personage which he calls ââ¬Å"The Tramp clownâ⬠ââ¬â a beggar. He displays this image in the way that he is attired: his black hair, a tight coat, oversized pants, pointed shoes, a bowler hat, bamboo cane, dark eyebrows and his signature square moustache. As I said before, Charlie Chaplin relates very well with real life situations. The gradual building up of this character can be linked to different historical situations; one of them could be the Great Depression. Historically, the Great Depression in the 1920s left the rich and fortunate in a terrible state, they were left with little dignity, like a tramp, a ââ¬Å"vagrant with refined manners of a gentlemanâ⬠. Charlie Chaplinââ¬â¢s original way of expressing and attempt to find the funny side in situations that are not usually made fun of; make him a true comedic icon. He does not need words to express himself as the audience can fill the words in by themselves. A quote by Charlie Chaplin personifies his character: ââ¬Å"I remain just one thing, and one thing only ââ¬â and that is a clown. It places me on a far higher plane than any politician. â⬠The second popular character is Adenoid Hynkel. He is the dictator of Tomania in the film ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠. He is one of the few to have openly criticised Adolf Hitler through the interpretation of Adenoid Hynkel. During that period of the two world wars millions of people followed Adolf Hitler and there were also people who were scared of Adolf Hitler, it made those who were scared how stupid it was to be scared of this ââ¬Å"monster ridiculous, venomous, pathetic who wants total control of the world. When the film came out, people immediately saw the resemblance between Adenoid Hynkel (Charlie Chaplin) and Adolf Hitler. Chaplin single-handedly reduced the monster into a ridiculous, venomous, pathetic clown. Here, Charlie Chaplin was adventurous and tried to find humour in a delicate situation: the two World Wars. For his accent he related to his past in vaudeville acting. The ââ¬Å"Great Dictatorâ⬠freed people spiritually. Charlie sent a video of ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠to the dictator himself. This shows us that he is always up for new challenges in the films that he creates. UNDOUBTEDLY, ONE OF CHARLIE CHAPLINââ¬â¢S MOST FAMOUS FILMS: THE GREAT DICTATOR I have chosen to talk about one of Charlie Chaplinââ¬â¢s famous films ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠because of the story that lies behind it. ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠was a controversial film directed by and starred Charlie Chaplin. It was the first true talking picture, released on the 15th of October 1940. It is unique for its fearless criticism of Hitler and Nazism and for its portrayal of the plight of Jews in Europe. The peopleââ¬â¢s appreciation and the mediaââ¬â¢s appreciation for the film shows in its nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Actor. When interviewed about this film, Charlie Chaplin said: ââ¬Å"Half-way through making ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠I began receiving alarming messages from the United Artists (â⬠¦ ) but I was determined to go ahead for Hitler must be laughed at. â⬠In ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠the physical resemblance between Charlie Chaplin and Hitler, especially with their square moustaches is astounding. Another interesting fact was that both were born just 4 days apart and grew up in relative poverty. Charlie Chaplin in ââ¬Å"The Great Dictatorâ⬠â⬠¦ Adolf Hitler in a Nazi Parade â⬠¦ CONCLUSION THE IMPACT HE MADE TO THE WORLD AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIETY AND THE ART Charlie Chaplin was a man who dimpled millions of cheeks in the early 1900's. Despite the fact that they were silent films in black and white, he put a lot of color into everyone's life. He managed to work his magic and free minds as well as speak the minds of ordinary people, whether it is about the horrors of life as a soldier in the two world wars or the dehumanization of work or about the wonderful sensations of love in ââ¬Å"City of Lightsâ⬠. He was not afraid to clearly show what he believed in. His excellent sense of narration and subordinating the story makes him a great master of pictures. Charlie Chaplin marks me as a man who despite of great disadvantages faced when he was young, managed to transform the ââ¬Å"nightmarishâ⬠situations that he experienced in silent comedy. He was a comedic icon of a kind. I feel that Charlie Chaplin is one of the most interesting people I have researched about. Coming from rags, he finally became a person whom everyone knows and loves. Such an impact he has made across the world that the Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom knighted him as Sir Charlie Chaplin in 1975. He died at the age of eighty-eight years old on the 25th of December 1977. Because they underestimate the differences among individuals in a group, stereotyping can lead to inaccurate and offensive perceptions of other people. Although stereotypes are prevalent in almost every society, becoming aware of our perceptions of others, as well as differentiating between both positive and negative stereotypes can help us overcome those stereotypes. ââ¬Å"Stereotyping is a three-part processâ⬠(Floyd, 61). In the first stage, weâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦. As people grow older and realize their racial, religious, and cultural groups, they tend to differentiate themselves from other groups. The main reason we develop stereotypes is because it is just human nature for us to categorize people. Stereotypes are a way to simplify groups of people and establish identities, especially when one doesnââ¬â¢t know much about the group (ââ¬Å"Overcoming Stereotypesâ⬠). Although prejudice and stereotype seem similar, they actually have two different meanings. While stereotyping involves the generalization of a group of people, prejudice involves negative feelings when ââ¬Å"theyâ⬠are in the presence of or even think about members of the group. ââ¬Å"Prejudice comes from direct intergroup conflict, social learning, social categorization and other cognitive sourcesâ⬠(Ferguson). Not all stereotypes are negative; there are also positive and neutral stereotypes. Some stereotypes do not slander a race, culture, gender, or religion, but nonetheless generalize a group of people that may or may not be true. For example, some people say that all Asians are smart or good at math. Though people of Asian descent may often be more studious, not all Asians do equally well in school (Floyd, 62). Another common example of a positive stereotype is that all black people are good athletes, dancers, and singers. Though these are positive stereotypes, when people believe them, they donââ¬â¢t take into account that every person is an individual and different. A neutral stereotypeShow MoreRelatedVulnerable Population - Hispanic Children Essay1593 Words à |à 7 PagesHispanic children experience multiple disparities in health status, insurance coverage, barriers to healthcare access and the quality of health care received. Globalizationââ¬â¢s Impact on Bangladesh The term globalization is very familiar worldwide and is being used frequently during oral and written communication. So, it is a buzzword. We know the word globe means model of the earth composite body that contains valuable animate and inanimate objects with multi-configuration in a space called universe. Human being is one of the superior animate objects. We, as the human being of the earth made our global efforts to globalize the various activities to satisfy the needs and wants. The process by means of which our activities are integrated and created interdependence globally is called globalization. Therefore, globalization can be defined as the on-going economic, technological, social and political integration of the world. Although the focus areas of CSR activities in both the countries are quite similar, there is a major difference in the way they have carried out the practice .In Bangladesh the main focus alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-12446499428951258482019-12-14T05:12:00.001-08:002019-12-14T05:12:03.765-08:00Wildlife Conservation Free Essays Do you remember going to the zoo as a child? The excitement of seeing something exotic, the terror of hearing a lion roar, the amazement of seeing a giraffeââ¬â¢s long neck. Everyone has a favourite animal. It could be a tiger, an elephant or a hippo. We will write a custom essay sample on Wildlife Conservation or any similar topic only for you Order Now Now think of your favourite animal, an animal that in some way or another defined you, dying in the next hour. It is predicted 3 unique species die out every hour. Thatââ¬â¢s 72 unique species every day. Thatââ¬â¢s 23,208 unique species every year. 26,208. Any animal lover understands the extent of the problem we now face. We are leading ourselves into a cataclysmic hole and in the very near future, the it will threaten the entire destiny of mankind. Over the last 30 years, over 30,000 species have died. This figure begs belief. Just the thought of there being 30,000 species that will go undocumented by mankind and not seen ever again is a horrific thought. Some plants are economically and medically very important to humanity. Nearly all drugs have some connection with plants and there is every possibility that an undiscovered plant could cure all diseases around the world. Plants are the root(if you pardon the pun) and cornerstone of the ecologies around the world, and not to mention if plants die out so do we. Itââ¬â¢s as simple as that. If the last few years are to go by , our fortune isnââ¬â¢t looking too good. Carbon emissions have gone up by threefold and 1.5 acres of rainforest are lost every second with tragic consequences for both developing and industrial countries. 129,600 acres of rainforest is lost every day. Thatââ¬â¢s the equivalent of losing an area of the size of Greece every day. Now some people may argue that this is just rubbish and the world is not dying, that there is no element of truth in this information at all. All facts used in this leaflet are true. The judgement has to be left to you. Do you think the world is dying? For those who think the world is dying there is still some hope. As far as I can see , the only way we can save endangered species is by wildlife conservation. To prevent the extinction of beloved species, there are many things you can do. You can start of by doing small steps such as researching about wildlife preservation or by making the problem more widely known. But if you want to make a bigger change to the way how the world is run you should join wildlife conservation societies such as The Nature Conservancy or the World Wildlife Fund. If we change our ways we can save the world. If we change our ways we can secure the future. If we change our ways your children will be able to live. But we have to change our habits now. How to cite Wildlife Conservation, Essays Wildlife Conservation Free Essays Wildlife Conservation is essential to the protection of endangered species and potentially saving humans and the ecosystem because scientists donââ¬â¢t know all of the affects that the extinction of certain species may have on the ecosystem and people. There is an ongoing battle between people who think that they are helpful and people that think that they arenââ¬â¢t doing anything. As the population of humans grows we have to expand so that we can all live comfortably. We will write a custom essay sample on Wildlife Conservation or any similar topic only for you Order Now Unfortunately a lot of people believe that we as humans have the upper hand because we are the ââ¬Å"dominantâ⬠species; this may not be true however. Scientific studies havenââ¬â¢t quite figured out how the loss of one particular species could affect the ecosystem or humans for that reason. Itââ¬â¢s not entirely known what affect, if any, animals have on humans or our natural resources. This has sparked a great debate among people. The non-consequentialist side argues that animals have just as much right to live as we do and because we donââ¬â¢t know what the consequences would be we should save them. While the consequentialist side argues that the human population needs to do what is best for them no matter what that means for the animals. Animal species serve as an indicator of the health of the ecosystem. ââ¬Å"We need to study species and their roles within ecosystems to understand their interdependencies and to predict the impacts of our actions on the environment. Species offer clues to understanding natural history and thus have historical value as records of past processesâ⬠(Paterson, 2006). This proves that animals have value to us because they help us better understand the environment. It could be said that without them we wouldnââ¬â¢t know as much as we do about the environment and history. Thatââ¬â¢s just one way that animals can benefit us. Some animal species provide people with food. ââ¬Å"It can be said that the quality of life will decline substantially with the loss of species diversity. In many developing countries, game viewing and trophy hunting generate considerable sums of money, and the aesthetic value of wildlife can thus be directly linked to an economic valueâ⬠(Paterson, 2006). If the animals they were hunting became extinct, they would no longer benefit from it. However that doesnââ¬â¢t stop them because they need to make money and they need to provide for themselves and their families. People depend on animals that live around them for food; without the animals the people would either die off or be forced to find a different way to survive. ââ¬Å"Many species, including endangered ones, are expected to have agricultural, industrial, and medical benefitsâ⬠(Paterson, 2006). Scientists donââ¬â¢t know exactly what each animal does for the ecosystem so they canââ¬â¢t tell us which ones would or wouldnââ¬â¢t benefit us if they were gone. Some animals do have known roles in the ecosystem, take the grizzly bear for example. Grizzlies keep other predators, such as cougars, coyotes and foxes at bay. Grizzlies eat berries, flowers, grasses, sedges, herbs, tubers, and nuts of all kinds. If they did become extinct the vegetation in an area would become over populated. Because grizzlies eat vegetation they help mix the soil and help increase the nutrients. With that being said, if they were to become extinct, a lot of the areas that Grizzlies occupy wouldnââ¬â¢t get ââ¬Å"farmedâ⬠and would therefore not grow as well. This could cause other animals to not be able to occupy the land either or worse it could cause other animals that were normally not there to occupy the land. So the extinction of one species of animal could result in the endangerment or extinction or another species. Humans are actually the main cause of the endangerments of a lot of species. People hunt animals for food, their skin and tusks, and also their fat. Many species of animals are hunted in such large groups so fast that it doesnââ¬â¢t give them time to repopulate. This causes them to slowly become extinct and why is this? Simply because people are more concerned about the wellbeing of themselves and no one else. The human pollution has caused pollution to animal food causing a lot of these animals to migrate to find food. This causes them to leave their homes and venture out to places that are unfamiliar to them; places where they might not be able to survive. Industrializing, and urban development have destroyed forests and habitats for animals causing them to leave and find another place to live. As humans grow and develop, we need to expand and make room for new industries and buildings so we can continue to grow and prosper. But by doing this it has caused many species of animals to become almost extinct. This is where Wildlife Conservations come into play, there are more than 1,000 animal species endangered worldwide, luckily there are more than 3,500 protected areas in existence worldwide that protect these endangered species (Kurpis, 2002). Wildlife Conservations are a place where animals can live and not worry about people killing them or losing their homes. They can live in the ââ¬Å"wildâ⬠like they did before people came around and started destroying everything around them. From a non-consequentialist side, Wildlife Conservations are a great way to save the animals. Wildlife Conservations help endangered animals attempt to repopulate and changed their endangered species status. By keeping the animals from being hunted for food, fur, tusks , or whatever else people may need them for, animals can reproduce and start to grow in number again. This can potentially help the endangered species get off of the endangered species list. A non-consequentialist would say that every animal has a job to carry out in our ecosystem. Every animal weather itââ¬â¢s big or small has a job to carry out and if we stop caring about the animals who knows what will happen to us in time. From a consequentialist point of view, theyââ¬â¢d argue that they need to expand industries and housing developments so that they can grow. They donââ¬â¢t care that they are destroying the homes of hundreds and thousands of animals. ââ¬Å"The primary reasons for the depletion of wildlife are the loss of habitats, poaching and indiscriminative hunting and fishing, rapid contamination of the food and water resources. There has, at large been an expansion of the human habitation into the forest areas and other wildlife habitats that have resulted in the destruction of wildlifeâ⬠(Wildlife Conservation Facts, 2012). Every time we cut down trees or every time we clear out a forest, animals are made homeless and have no where else to go. Non-consequentialists would argue that it is our duty to see that the well being of everyone is taken into consideration before we go and destroy forests and cut down trees. They would say that the animals have every right that we do to live and that we shouldnââ¬â¢t do anything to them that we ouldnââ¬â¢t want done to us. We as people should look at the big picture and see that by doing whatever we want right now we could actually affect us later. We could potentially save the lives of hundreds and thousands of animals and maybe even ourselves. Because who knows what killing off grizzlies, polar bears, wolves, or even bunnies will do to us. They may be th e reason that we are still alive and they may be the reason that our ecosystem is still thriving. If we save them we may be doing ourselves a favor as well as doing them a favor. The fiend as Lady Macbeth is to say she is very evil and has no morals, able to bend otherââ¬â¢s wills to equal her own giving them a confused air of what they really want. On the other hand to say Macbeth was always a butcher is an unfair evaluation of him, as it doesnââ¬â¢t reflect the views that the whole of Scotland had at the beginning of the play. Fiend is a brilliant way to describe Lady Macbeth as she is the one who initially introduced the feeling of evil into the play and into Macbeth leading him to commit the act of treason against Godââ¬â¢s representative on Earth, King Duncan. To begin with Macbeth is a highly respected Thane of Glamis with a set life for his wife, Lady Macbeth and himself. He is referred to as ââ¬Å"nobleâ⬠and a ââ¬Å"valiant soldierâ⬠not at all a butcher and would die in battle for his King. His noble acts then promote him to Thane of Cawdor. Following his well-deserved promotion Lady Macbeth had a letter delivered about Macbethââ¬â¢s encounter with witches, their prophecies and his transfer to Thane of Cawdor. Lady Macbeth hatches a plan to ensure all of the witches prophecies become reality by getting rid of the one thing that stands in their way: King Duncan. However her plan is interrupted by Macbeth who is loyal to the King and refuses to be a part of the fiendish act. She knows he has ambition and it would be difficult for her to convince him to commit the act of treason, ââ¬Å"yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full oââ¬â¢thââ¬â¢ milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great, art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it. â⬠Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s fiend-like qualities have shown after Macbethââ¬â¢s letter is received. She seems to show a strong hate towards the limitations of her sex. Being a woman traditionally holds feelings of sensitivity and being beautiful limits her from being capable of committing murder. In her famous soliloquy she says: ââ¬Å"Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty. â⬠She wishes to be removed from her body to be able to commit the deed which cannot be done while she is a woman. Further in her soliloquy she says: ââ¬Å"Make thick my blood, stood up thââ¬â¢ access and passage to remorseâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Not only does she want the limitations removed, but she also wishes for the guilt to end, an end to her remorse and emotions. This combination will enable her to become more of a butcher than Macbeth ever was. Throughout the whole play Lady Macbeth gives the definition to the term fiend. Macbeth again is seen to disprove the image of a butcher before Duncanââ¬â¢s murder as he reconsiders whether his actions will have any effect and whether he should continue or not. Macbeth says: ââ¬Å"First, I am his kinsman and his subject- strong both against the deedâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ and argues against the murder of Duncan, he doesnââ¬â¢t believe that it is right that he kills Duncan due to family and royal relations. Macbeth succeeds in persuading himself against the murder of Duncan, as shown when he says, ââ¬Å"I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which oââ¬â¢erleaps itself and falls on the otherâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ He compares his inner ambition to the riding of a horse, but then he states the he has no reason to leap high off of his horse to kill the king because he knows he will eventually fall. Clearly no butcher would freeze and think over their actions before actually committing them, and a real butcher would never be able to stop themselves from doing the senseless act that is described as butchery. At this point in the play Lady Macbeth is shown to use her methods of persuasion on Macbeth himself. One of these is her knowing of his weaknesses and she uses this to her advantage to change his opinion again. She says: ââ¬Å"To be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire? Wouldst thou have that which thou esteemââ¬â¢st the ornament of life, and live a coward in thine own esteemâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ In this single statement Lady Macbeth attacks Macbethââ¬â¢s honour and bravery as well as his inner ambition. Macbeth is being told to act as he thinks and becoming cowardly for not doing it. The unlikeliness of Macbeth being called a coward before lets the comment gets under his skin and tries to prove to his wife that his courage is intact. However, Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s intentions are not understood until she backs up her argument to why Duncan should be murdered: ââ¬Å"I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this. â⬠No human says but a fiend, what mother would intentionally hurt their child even if they had sworn to do it? Macbeth is not a butcher, and Lady Macbeth is not just a fiend. As shown, although Malcolmââ¬â¢s statement does describe certain aspects of the personalities it is a vague description of the whole extent of their characters. Macbeth is a brave and valiant man who had been turned to butchery by weakness and his desire to gain power, exploited by his wife. Fiendish is a more decent way to describe Lady Macbeth but it still lacks the ability to capture her true nature as disturbed and evil. It would be fair to say that the statement tries to create an overall evaluation of both characters in a single statement but in the process makes them seem less dramatic and complex than they actually are. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-66058835770995832602019-11-28T21:28:00.001-08:002019-11-28T21:28:05.008-08:00Arranged Marriages Essays (503 words) - Philosophy Of Love Arranged Marriages Arranged Marriages My Stand: I believe that arranged marriages are a social injustice. I feel that they deprive individuals of their liberation and goes against the first amendment freedom of speech, press, assembly and most of all choice. Marriage is a commitment of two people who have made a vow to love each other till death. Well in India, marriages are arranged and set up by the parents of the bride, without her consent. The parents search for a man they feel is compatible for their daughter, based on his background, wealth and health. Imagine crying but no one sees your tears. Imagine you can't play music or watch T.V., just imagine your freedom is taken from you, because of the traditions that occur in your culture. Imagine that you have to spend the rest of your life with a person you don't love. I take the stand on this issue, on the basis of this principle, as stated in ?The World Philosophy/A text with reading?, pg. 263. ?Tradition, authority and prejudice, all three of these items are ambiguous and one can view them negatively as a source of error or positively as the necessary accompaniment of all knowledge and experience.? ?Tradition is only a form of authority.? ?No amount of emancipation can free one from one's culture and heritage. Tradition, authority and prejudice are just words for pre- experience and pre-knowledge which becomes indeed the conditions of all the future experiences and knowledge. These words underline the essential historicity of man, the fact that he is born into and limited within a culture from which limits he can soar, though always in a limited way.? The principle as I interpreted is conveying that, rituals are a form of power that enables people to practice these traditions through the course of their lives. Who makes these traditions and why must we adhere to them? No quantity of liberation can at no cost rescue or deliver an individual from customs. It's a way of life for them and they have no choice; just because your culture lives by certain tradition, that does not make these acts just. Ritual, power and bigotry highlights the vital accounts of individuals born, contained by a society where the voice is spoken, but never quite heard. In conclusion, and I Quote, ?True love cannot be found where it does not exist, nor can it be hidden where it truly does.? This quote, which was obtained through research, supports my stand on this issue. Love is not something that you just fall into. You may want to love someone but can't verbatim you may not want to love someone but do. Marriage is something special, sacred and should be shared with the person you love and hold close to your heart. It is important that we acknowledge that cultural practices, do lead to oppression of women in this country. It is a complicated dilemma, but the plight of women that are forced to marry demands attention. First, post-money valuation, thus, denotes the status of a company after it has receive some funding. Second, the post-money state is equally a mark of capital injection within the organization something that is absent in pre-money valuation. It is imperative to note valuation is a financial concept that is predominant in venture capital and private equity to determine the prospects of financing or investment. It is true that any form of investment has risk especially for the early stage ventures unlike the late stage venture capital. This is because of limited financing and resources in the market to attract customers. Another hindrance for early stage ventures includes the utilization of capital in other stabilizing instead of expanding the business. In other words, the various stages such as start-up and formative of early ventures prevent it from picking up as opposed to the late stage venture capital. After Initial Public Offering (IPO), it is true that shareholders could freely trade their shares. One of the reasons entails assessment of scarce commodity that often gives analysts a chance to advise shareholders on issues of their prospectus. Second, company prospects with strong brokers offers platform for trading in shares in public to earn dividends through smaller and quality brokerages (Bierman, 2011). Alternatively, reading of prospectus carefully is essential in the determination of IPO especially in the first investment to establish oneââ¬â¢s high-net worth for dividends. There is advantage and disadvantage of being a public company. The advantage is that such a company is open to trading and investment prospects for most investors. The information relayed across the network is not confidential but faster reliance would enable the private users to gain the necessary information conveniently. On the other hand, the NIPRNet would benefit from the UGVs through taking advantage of both their speed and high security of records while in transit. The network deals with highly confidential information that has to be secured effectively while eradicating all loopholes to security including human error. Therefore, the UGVs will be depended upon to transport manual files to the agency buildings for effective sharing of information across the network. The suppliers would start demanding payments for the raw material and in the long-term, this would lead to higher working capital requirement. Finished stocks: While the sales are close to budgeted figures, the finished stocks have increased by 46% compared to budget. The increase in finished stocks means that the production of finished goods was more than sales. In planning for production, the previous stocks that the company already had may not have take been into account. Another possible reason for increase in finished stocks could be return of goods from customers that bought the goods in previous budget period. If the finished stocks are allowed to continue to increase, the company would incur unnecessary inventory cost. After a certain stage, this would become unsustainable as finished goods would stay in inventory with inventory turnover decreasing and leading to higher working capital requirement. Debtors: The outstanding receivables have increased by 50% compared to budget with sales same as budgeted.... Bank: The bank component turning negative means that the company has used up all the money in its account and now has a loan from the bank to the amount of ? 39,000. If this is allowed to continue, the bank would keep charging interest leading to lower profitability for the company. For any new payments to be made, the company would need to draw more credit from the bank or would need to pass on all money received from customers to the suppliers. The companyââ¬â¢s cost of capital would increase making investments in some projects less lucrative. Creditors: The liability to creditors has decreased by 77% compared to budget. The decrease in the creditorsââ¬â¢ component means that the suppliers have been paid off a higher percentage than budgeted. Because the raw material stocks have increase and the creditorsââ¬â¢ component has decreased, it means that all previous credit from suppliers has been repaid and a larger proportion of purchases during this budget period have been pa id off as well. If this is allowed to continue, the company would be effectively paying its suppliers before getting money from the customers leading to high working capital requirement for the company, in turn leading to necessity of raising more money for the company. B) Procedures that could be put in place to control the various elements Raw material stocks: In order to reduce the raw material stocks in the short-term, the company needs to be stricter on the re-order level of the raw materials. If not already defined, the re-order levels for all raw materials needs to be defined with the procurement department and strict adherence must be ensured in placing to new orders. No new orders for raw materials should be made until the stock quantity reaches the re-order level. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-65177205227942080362019-11-15T22:42:00.001-08:002019-11-15T22:42:07.481-08:00An Overview Of Teenage Pregnancy Sociology EssayAn Overview Of Teenage Pregnancy Sociology Essay In the U.S, about one million teenage girls get pregnant every year and this greatly affects the lives of the teenagers, the children they bare and the society at large. The social behavior and attitude towards sex has greatly contributed to the increase of teenage pregnancy since sex is publicly glorified and is even used as a marketing tool. Teenagers are engaging in sexual activities at an early age since they are exposed to it even before they are mature. It is the role of parents to try and bring up their children in a morally upright manner and advice them on the effects of early pregnancies in their lives. The causes and effects of teenage pregnancy are more of the same. They include poverty, unemployment, and lack of education, low self esteem and in some cases, abuse. Factors leading to teenage pregnancy The causes of teenage pregnancy are both social an also economical. The lack of knowledge on the consequences of teenage pregnancy among the teenagers is the primary factor that leads to teenagers to engage in irresponsible sexual practices. Another contributing factor is the up bringing of the children. The way parents bring up their children as well as the kind of environment they are brought up in contributes realty to the sexual behavior of a child. Parents who do not communicate openly to with their children on social issues such as sex are putting their children at the risk of being teenage parents. The lack of open communication between the children and the parents encourages the children to find other sources of information and in most cases, they go to their fellow students or older friends who may end giving them the wrong or misleading information. On the other hand, children who are brought in an environment that consists of many cases of teenage pregnancies or even in situations where the parents are single mothers or were victims of teenage pregnancy are more likely to follow the same course since it is something normal in their ââ¬Ëworld. The way a child is brought up defines who they are in terms of emotional maturity as well as their communication skills. When children are not taught how to communicate and air their views openly and boldly, they end up suffering from low self esteem and this makes them easy targets and increases their chances of being vulnerable to peer pressure which is also responsible for teenage pregnancy. This lack of communication and guidance from parents also contributes to the childs irresponsible behavior. Poverty is another major factor that contributes to teenage pregnancy. In most low income earning areas, the are no facilities that are used to educate children on the effects of engaging in sexual activities at an early age. In some cases, the children are forced to engage in sexual activities as a way of getting money to support themselves and their families. The wealthier people in these areas take advantage of the young children and promise them a better life in exchange for sex. Ignorance is also another aspect that is come in these areas and is usually brought about by the lack of education. When parents are not well educated, they do not see the importance of educating or discussing sex and other issues that affect the teenagers and the children end up messing up since they were not advised. The kind of messages that are sent to teenagers about sex are also contributing factors to the early engagement in sex which leads to teenage pregnancy. Todays culture glorifies sex and does not put into consideration nor is it accountable for its consequences. The social attitudes on the other hand do not provide a conducive environment for open discussions on sex and resources are not also available for the same. From studies, there are some factors such as poor performance in school that force the children to drop out and when they do, the chances o them engaging in sexual activities are very high and they end up getting pregnant. There are many children who are victims of sexual abuse and this completely messes up with their views and attitude towards sex. These children end up perceiving themselves as sexual objects from an early age and this increases the cases of teenage pregnancy. Effects of teenage pregnancy The effects of teenage pregnancy are felt by the individual victims and also the society. When school going teenagers get pregnant, most of them opt to drop out of school due to shame and also so that they can prepare themselves for the coming baby and motherhood in general. On the other hand, teenage fathers are not in a position to support their families financially so they also end up dropping out of school so that they can work and provide for their family. Since getting a job without education is hard, the students find themselves engaging in criminal activities and drug abuse as they try to find solutions to their state. Most teenage mothers do not have any support from their families so they and up becoming a part of the lower society whereby they are not able to access basic needs such as health care and well balanced diets. This affects their health and the health of their children and sometimes may lead to complications during child birth. Teenage parents pose a great economic and social risk to the society since they are not financially stable. Dropping out of school, doing drug and also engaging in criminal activities by teenage fathers affect the community in terms of the level of security. Dropping out of school means that one is not well educated and therefore, they cannot secure good jobs and this increases the cases of joblessness and this pull down the economic status of the society. When one is not educated, their level of productivity socially and economically goes down and this affects the community at large. Ways of preventing teenage pregnancy. Teenagers should be encouraged not to engage in sexual activities at an early age and they should also be well informed on early pregnancy and its effects. The students should be well educated on the topic of sex as a whole should be discussed in schools and this will help in the reduction of cases of teenage pregnancy. The teenagers should also be educated on the ways of preventing pregnancy and also ways of ensuring safe sex. They should be allowed to access contraceptives as well as family planning services without age being an issue and confidentiality should be assured. Parents on the other hand have a great role to play in ensuring that their children are brought up morally upright and that they should instill confidence and a sense of responsibility in their children so that they can be able to make wise choices and not be pulled away by peer pressure. Motivating children on positive life options and also enhancing the skills of the children I other ways apart from education is also very important since children know that they have a future despite their performance in school and this reduces the cases of school drop outs who would have otherwise ended up getting pregnant. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-918694937043026051.post-34407742815818598972019-11-13T11:14:00.001-08:002019-11-13T11:14:04.952-08:00American Big Business - A Case Study :: essays research papers Singer Corporation, now known as Bicoastal Corporation, is the company that brought the world the sewing machine. There are Singer Sewing machines in almost every country in the world and Singer instructions in more than 50 languages. Mahatma Gandhi learned to sew on a Singer and called it ââ¬Å"one of the few useful things ever invented.â⬠I will attempt to explain how Singer came to be one of Americaââ¬â¢s big businesses. Isaac Merritt Singer was born in Pittstown, New York in 1811, and ran away from his immigrant parents at the age of 12 to join a troupe of traveling actors. He remained an actor until 1835, inventing things on the side. The first patent for a sewing machine was granted in 1790 in England but no one had been able to come up with a reliable design that did not need frequent repairs. Because of this sewing machines had never become commercially successful. In 1850 Singer came up with a design and patented it. In 1851 Singer and Company was born and the Singer sewing machine was an immediate success. The machine was, however very close in design to that of Elias Howe who had been on the verge of solving the problem of the unreliable sewing machine. He sued for patent infringement. Singer hired a young lawyer to defend him. In exchange for his services Clark became an equal partner in the company. Singer ran the manufacturing side and Clark the Financial side. Clark ended the lawsuit and pooled the two patents together creating the Singer Machine Combination. This was the first patent pool in America. Until the late 1850s, because of the price of the sewing machines, the company concentrated on the commercial market e.g. professional tailors and clothing manufactures. But around this time Clark introduced the first customer installment payment plan. Combined with an intensive marketing campaign, this meant that the product could reach a wider market than ever before and even those with relatively low incomes could afford the sewing machines. By 1855 Singer was the worldââ¬â¢s biggest sewing company. It begans its overseas expansion starting in Paris, making Singer the worldââ¬â¢s first international company. The first factory outside the United States was opened in Glasgow, Scotland in 1961, followed by distribution centers in London, England, and a factory in Brighton, England that was the biggest in the U.K. at the time. By 1867 international sales exceeded at home sales for the first time. alicewhite1938http://www.blogger.com/profile/06473395646198806802noreply@blogger.com0
